Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
I have been representing injured plaintiffs in California for over 20 years. Prior to starting my firm last year, I was a partner with Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff, where we also represented injured plaintiffs in personal injury cases, as well as large product liability and consumer class action cases. I started my firm because I wanted to provide my clients with my own brand of excellent legal representation, consistent with my unique human qualities of compassion, strength, caring and integrity. I have represented injured people for over twenty years. While I have very successfully tried and settled many cases over the years, I take nothing for granted. For that reason, I work very hard – harder than most. I do it because I love what I do and I am constantly striving to improve, learn new ways of doing things, better ways of connecting with juries. My clients deserve no less.
What is your primary product or service?
Personal injury, medical malpractice and insurance bad faith. I represent people who have been injured by someone's negligent or reckless behavior, whether that's due to a car accident, a negligent doctor, a corporation that creates an unsafe product, or an insurance company that unfairly denies its policyholders' valid claims.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My father was a neurologist with a small neurology practice in Pomona, California. Growing up in that environment, I always understood that we are here to help others in some way, shape or form. I also learned a great deal about traumatic brain injury, and about the very special relationship between people who suffer from brain injury, whether organic or traumatic, and their care providers. At some point growing up I decided I wanted to become a lawyer and stand up for the rights of injured people. Through my upbringing, my study of the human brain, and my experience representing people with brain injury, I believe that I have a unique ability to help injured clients, and in particular those who have survived a traumatic brain injury.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
There are a lot of great lawyers in this region, and I've been honored many times to work with some of them. In my practice, we work very hard to understand what our clients have experienced so that we can authentically convey their story to the other side, who is charged with determining what (if any) compensation they will receive for their injuries. It's important that our clients do not look like another number on a page, so we work hard to make sure that a jury will be able to relate to the story of their lives, their loss, and how that loss tore a hole in the fabric of their lives.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Currently we are located at 401 Watt Avenue, on the corner of Watt and Fair Oaks, in Sacramento, California, and we travel all over California to assist our clients. We have the ability to help clients nation wide, and we have also helped international clients who have traveled from abroad and were injured during their stay in California.
Provide detailed directions to your location
From Highway 50, take the Watt Avenue exit and follow it North. Make a U-Turn at Fair Oaks Boulevard, and our building is located just past the gas station on the right hand side of Watt (facing South), just past Fair Oaks Boulevard. It is the large white building with palm trees and a large parking lot in front.
What type of payments do you accept?
We work on a contingency "no recovery, no fee" basis, meaning our clients do not pay anything out of pocket. We advance all up front costs and do not charge a fee unless and until we make a recovery on their behalf.
Which areas do you service?
We service Sacramento, Elk Grove, Roseville, Folsom, Carmichael, Citrus Heights, El Dorado Hills, Placerville, Galt, Lodi, Stockton, Fairfield, Vallejo, and essentially all of California.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Our firm is owned by Eric Ratinoff. He and his qualified team of administrators, legal assistants, and associate attorneys run the daily operations.
What are your hours of operation?
Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
I consider it a compliment every time a person puts their trust in my strength, integrity, and ability to represent them as their lawyer.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
“The very essence of civil liberty certainly consists in the right of every individual to claim protection of the laws whenever he receives an injury. ” -United States Supreme Court, Marbury v. Madison
